You know, I don’t have a problem with CBS making a different version of modern-day Sherlock. I don’t.
I do have a problem with them switching the gender of one of the roles.
Joan Watson? Really?
While I have to say that I think it’s a good idea, I also have to point out the obvious: It’s THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. In general, it’s a country that objectifies women and makes sexuality a huge part of media and advertising. I’m not the kind of person who thinks that somehow it wouldn’t be fair for both roles to be male, or who thinks that any government position that isn’t occupied by a female or by someone who holds females above males is someone who’s being unfair. I’m really not.
All I’m saying is, I don’t trust the United States to create a series, based on something exquisite, and not make it into yet another embarrassment. I mean, come on; the word makes fun of us enough. Do we really need to do this?
Also, because of the ignorance of the general public, the chance of Sherlock and Joan somehow not becoming romantically or sexually involved? It’s very, very slim.
I’m not against the idea. I’m just saying you should either leave it be, or go all out, instead of half-assing it to try and attract more attention.
In other words, I would certainly love to see Cheryl/Shelly/Whatever Holmes and Joan Watson with their own show. I’d rather not want to shoot myself in the head over the idiocy that ‘Elementary’ is almost destined to be.
